EXPRO training, in Rotterdam, Holland, by CBI

From 15-19 of March 38 Mongolians together with single participants from Ecuador, Uganda, South Africa and Peru attended extensive training program in Rotterdam. The training was delivered by 13 international consultants to a high level.

ITB Berlin 2011 - BEST EXHIBITOR AWARD

The ITB Berlin international exhibition of tourism successfully organized from 9th to 13 of March, 2011 and 11,163 organizations from 188 countries participated. (In 2010, 11,127 organizations from 187 countries participated)

Mongolia has participated since 1999 and in this year ITB Berlin, the government endorsed the resolution 204 of 2010 which agreed Mongolia should participate as “Cultural Partner Country”.

1. INTRODUCTION

2011 will be the 5th anniversary of the Sustainable Tourism Development Centre; looking back over the last four years we are proud of what we have achieved and we are looking forward to developing a number of exciting new projects working with our friends and partners in 2011.

Workshop in Zavhan aimag

STDC is working with Mercy Corps on “Rural Business and Tourism Development” project. In January 2011 STDC senior consultant Brian Watmough and project manager Oyungerel.O travelled to Zavkhan aimag to give training and advice. The Green Gold project which is supported by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation identified herder groups interested in tourism and generously gave logistical support. More than 30 herders or small businesses attended training in Uliatsai.

Workshop in Hovd aimag

12 January 2011

In October 2010 STDC staff Oyungerel and Brian travelled to Hovd aimag to work with herder communities and aimag officials as part of our work for Mercy Corps Mongolia.  More than 20 members of community groups attended training in the aimag centre. We then traveled to Moust soum to give more detailed advice on business management . We also gave advice to Marima on developing a tour operator business, see her facebook page at

ACCREDITING SUSTAINABLE TOURISM CERTIFICATION

Asia Pacific Consultative Workshop The United Nations Environment Program Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific has the pleasure of hosting a “roundtable” meeting for Asia Pacific certification programs in order to discuss alignment to the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC), and to acquire input on the Tourism Sustainability Council’s (TSC) international accreditation program for sustainable tourism certificates.

STDC is chosen to be one of the critical partner and is invited to participate the roundtable meeting for Asia Pacific certification programs.
